FO Friday - 4/28/2023

It’s TGIF! And I have two (albeit small) finished objects to share!!!

The Kid is friends with a Dallas Stars player. He commissioned me to make him a hat.

I made one for Mrs. Dallas Stars Player too. Hers has a furry pom pom.

I had some Encore Worsted in black. I didn’t have any green, never mind Dallas Stars green; so, I had to purchase some. I used the Jelka pattern by Isabell Kraemer. It was a fun hat to make.

Movie Monday - 4/24/2023

So many movies, so little time. Last week, I watched a few that have been on my list for a while.

The Innocents is set in Poland in 1945. A doctor from the French Red Cross is summoned to a convent to attend to a medical situation. She finds several pregnant nuns. It was very good.

Isla Fisher, Leslie Man, Judi Dench and Dan Stevens star in Blithe Spirit, the 2020 film adaptation of Noel Coward’s play with the same name. A writer wants to become acquainted with a spiritual medium to pick up some tricks of the trade. A seance at his home results in the conjuring of the ghost of his first wife. As expected, it causes friction in his current marriage. It was rather good.

Streamers:
Wellmania - Netflix
Unstable - Netflix
Miss Scarlett and the Duke Season 3 - PBS Passport

FO Friday - 4/22/2023

I actually have two things to show y’all today.

First up, I had some yarn left over (Louisa Harding Yarns Kashmir Baby) from the February Baby Sweater that I made in November. I decided it needed a hat.

A Raveler named teeweewonders had come up with the pattern I used, which incorporates the same gull wing stitch as the sweater pattern by Elizabeth Zimmerman. It’s appropriately called February Baby Hat.

Now, the set is complete.

Secondly, I finished a shawl called Blue Jean Saturday by O/C Knitiot - Deby Lake. It was a fun pattern to knit.

The yarn I used is Skeindalous Bettie in The Doctor’s Wife - a beautiful Tardis Blue. I love the color, but was not impressed with the base.

I had bought the yarn at DFW Fiber Fest a few years ago. I originally wanted to make Bigger on the Inside by Kate Atherly to keep with the Doctor Who theme, but I changed my mind.

Don’t worry, my needles aren’t empty. I may have something to show you next week.

Book Chat - 4/20/2023

I have two books to discuss today.

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
Written in the 1950s, this science fiction novel is about a mentally disabled person. He undergoes an experimental procedure to improve his intellectual capabilities. It was later adapted into a movie called Charly, starring Cliff Robertson. It was good.

The Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman
Set on Coney Island in the early 1900s, the book is about a boy and a girl who find each other despite being worlds apart. It was good.

Books I’ve put on hold at the library are becoming available; so, I’m not sure when I’ll get back to Queen Elin.

WIP Wednesday - 4/19/2023

I just finished a knitting project that I hope to show you on Friday.

Today, I worked on a sewing project that’s been a long time coming. I saved all of The Kid’s baseball jerseys from tee ball through high school to make memory quilts. He’s been out of high school for a while now.

Over a year ago (January 2022), I found the box of jerseys. I decided to start with the oldest and cut out all the “blocks.” I started stabilizing the shirts with interfacing, but after I did the first one, I put away the whole shebang.

Finally, last week, I got the box out again and today, I started stabilizing the blocks while the master shower is undergoing a tile rejuvenation. In five hours, I was only able to get through half of the shirts (of the first quilt). It reminded me why I had put it all away before. It takes a lot of time!

And it’s not a very fun job.

I hope to finish the stabilizing by the end of the weekend, because I am not going to devote five hours straight of my time again.

And to think that I have two more memory quilts after this one.

Movie Monday - 4/10/2023

I wish I had more time to watch movies, but I don’t.

Anthony Hopkins and Anne Hathaway star in Armageddon Time. The film is set in New York in the 1980s. It’s about athree generations of a family just taking it one day while navigating the American dream. It was good.

I read The Book Thief many years ago and was finally able to watch the movie. It was about a girl given to a family during WWII. Her mother could no longer keep her safe. It was so good. The acting was wonderful - Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson and especially Sophie Nèlisse who plays the girl.

Start Something Sunday - 4/2/2023

I really started this shawl last Sunday, but it was after I had posted about my other start.

While I love the color of this yarn, I don’t really like the base. More info will come when I post about the finish.
