FO Friday - 6/26/2026

When I saw this fabric collection, I knew I had to make something with some of the prints. It’s called Hydrangeas in the Garden by Jennifer Bosworth for Riley Blake. 

I do love me some hydrangeas. I decided I would make pillowcases because, who doesn’t like a pillowcase? I change mine at least every other day, sometimes daily. Plus, I have so many quilts on deck - I didn’t need fabric for yet another quilt, mocking me from the corner.

I couldn’t decide which color way I liked best - the pink or the purple.

I got both.

FO Friday - 6/19/2026

It’s the weekend! It’s time to recreate, but it’s supposed to rain this weekend; so some activities will not be feasible. I wanted to get my car washed, too, but I digress. Maybe, I will work on some projects to finish to show y'all, just like the two I have to show today!

First, I made another scrub cap. I have another doc friend who went to A&M; so, this cap will be a Christmas present.

I know - I’m ahead of the game.

AND, I’ve finished the fourth entry for Year of Shawls. 

 

The pattern is Be Simple by Carolyn Glauz-Todrank. The yarn is Colinette Jitterbug in Lagoon that I won in my friend Lorette’s contest on her blog twelve years ago. I’ve used all three skeins now. I forgot to mention I used one of the skeins recently (the yarntini Semi-Solid Sock - the light gray one called gin) in this shawl. Looking at the colors while I was making this shawlette made me happy. It was a fun and fairly quick knit.

Of course I have another shawl OTN. Who do you think I am?

FO Friday - 5/29/2026

I finished something recently. It’s another shawl for my Year of Shawls project.

What is that, you ask? It’s my strategy to stash down some of the many singles skeins of sock yarn I’ve purchased in the past. They’ve been sitting around not being knit into anything, never mind not being knit into socks. 

Here’s the latest shawl:

The pattern is Get Set and Go by Jem Arrowsmith. I used The Fiber Seed Sprout Sock in Nautical. It is nice and squishy yarn. The put up is 510 yards, more than enough for the shawl, but I ran short. I did one less pattern repeat. 

I also finished these pillowcases (plus others that will be Christmas gifts that I can’t show) that I started back in February.

Remember how I couldn’t resist the pink flamingos in the fabric collection called Coastal Breeze by Northcott Fabrics? It must have been very popular, because one can hardly find any of the fabrics online currently.

I have another shawl and many sewing/quilting projects going right now. Hopefully, I’ll turn them into finishes soon.

FO Friday - 4/10/2026

Y'all! I finished something, and it’s my first knitting make for 2026. 

This shawl took a month to make, and I don’t have a good reason why it took so long. The pattern is called Playtime by Meg Gadsbey. I used Yarn Carnival High Wire 3-Ply in Water Gardens and Yartini Semi-solid Sock in gin. Both yarns are lovely to the touch.

And I discovered that I never showed you some sewing makes.

I alluded to this quilt made from my son’s baseball tees back in April. A year ago…I finished it a year ago!

I made these scrub caps to gift before Christmas.

I made these scrub caps in February. They are currently in the gift box.

FO Friday - 3/6/2026

Besides being behind with sharing the books I’ve read, I’m also behind in sharing pictures of things that I’ve made. Let me tell you about the stuff I finished before the end of the year…

I’m sure I mentioned my mission in 2025 to make a hat every month to take over to the local shelter for the unhoused. Between October and the end of December, I made the following hats using leftovers from other projects.

First, I made inversions of the pattern called Drips by Bethany Hill.

Then, I made one inspired by a pattern called Drizzle by Amy Kate Sutherland.

I ended up making 11 total and added one in that had been sitting in the gifting box for a couple of beers. Can you tell which one it was?

Then, at the absolute end of the year, I finally completed Proserpina.

I wasn’t enthused with this project from the beginning because there were serious gauge issues. I didn’t mind the actual knitting, but dang, even my own gauge swatches lied. The silhouette of the sweater that resulted is not the one I was envisioning.

Oh well - it’s wearable. I’m just worried that I will not want to wear it because of the bad juju surrounding it It probably will end up sitting in the cedar closet, mocking my knitting skills until I cannot stand it anymore, and I end up donating it. I may have done that a time or two in the past…

I cannot see any way to “fix” it without frogging at all and just starting over. I do NOT want to do that.

Why couldn’t the issue be easier, as it was for this sweater?

I made this sweater in 2019. I found myself not wearing it because something felt off about it. I can’t find words to describe the feeling. It looked all right, but there was something about it and it wasn’t getting worn. 

One day, a bolt of lightning must’ve hit me. I decided that it was too long. I frogged back the ribbing and then about two or so inches more before I knit the ribbing back and cast off. I think I like it much better.

You can tell it’s shorter now - just look and compare with the mannequin picture above.

FO Friday - 10/11/2025

Hello everyone! I have two projects to show you:

This little blanky started out as part of a KAL (knit-a-long, for the muggles) hosted by Fifty Four Ten Studio. It was a gentle KAL - one did not have to complete the project by the deadline. Good thing - because I finished after the deadline. I finished this blanky in August. (And I’m just now showing it off - I know...)

The pattern is one of theirs called Summer Sidewalk. I had some skeins of Wool Ease lying around in purple. If anyone knows of someone with a baby coming and purple will fit into the color scheme of the nursery, please let me know.

AND

I made some bags to donate to the local children’s hospital on the G. The hospital fills them with books and art supplies and gives them to children who have undergone some sort of trauma.  

It’s an easy- peasy pattern. I lined mine, but it’s not a requirement. This bag is a good way to use up leftovers!

FO Friday - 8/1/2025

I’ve gotten a little knitting mojo back.

Well, I finished this hat in April and then didn’t really knit much til a few weeks ago, as you have probably deduced by the dearth of knitting posts…

The pattern is called 131-11b Sweet Caroline Hat by DROPS design. I used their yarn, called DROPS Alpaca in Creme, that I’ve had for almost 20 years. I suppose it’s well aged.

I finished Astro Pop a week ago - in 21 days, not four.

I used Berroco Modern Cotton DK in Sandy Point, aka white, and Warbler, aka blue. The green is Cascade Yarns Ulta Pima in Antique.  It was a fun pattern to knit. I look forward to wearing it.

I am about a third done with Proserpina. I hope to finish it soon.

FO Friday - 4/5/2025

Y’all should see my sewing studio. There’s fabric/pattern combos of things I’d like to make. There’s a couple of started things and there’s almost finished things. And there’s fabric and patterns that are waiting to find each other.

I pieced and quilted this baby at the end of 2023. It has needed a binding since then.  Sadly, the dash got in the way until just recently when I hopped on it.

It’s the companion quilt to the one on the left. Leftie was made in 2016. I had plenty of leftovers from the fat quarter collection to make another. I cut out the rectangles and promptly stored them in the closet.  (There’s still some leftovers.) I needed more fabric for the background and backing, but couldn’t source any like the first. I found some that was close and put it with the rectangles in the closet. And there it sat until 2023.

I have been wanting to make these pillowcases since before Christmas. Last weekend was apparently the time to get them done.

Remember that baseball jersey quilt for The Kid? I’m working on the binding.

FO Friday - 2/14/2025

Hello Dear Readers, I hope you’re having a good day.

I would like to show you two recently finished hats:

First, Jason’s Cashmere Hat. Sadly, I did not use cashmere. I used Caron’s Simply Soft leftovers from a chemo cap I made last year. I love a good cable and this pattern does not disappoint.

I’ve made the Basic Norwegian Star Hat before. This time, I forgot to deduct one pattern repeat, and it’s wider than I like. I’m sure it will fit somebody. I used Lion Brand Wool Ease and Plymouth Encore leftovers. I need to do more stranded knitting to improve my tension, although I did pretty well with this one.

FO Friday - 1/11/2025

 Y’all! I finished something in the new year!

The pattern is called Travel Hat by Robin Devine. I used Cascade 220 Superwash Aran in the Army Green color way. My knitting mojo has been pretty nonexistent, which is why I chose to make something little. Instant gratification can be a good jumpstarter.

Once again, I’m trying to play with yarn in my stash. I’m not promising a total cold sheep year, but I’d really like to knit with yarn I already have. 

I’ve already started another project. It’s another hat. I hope you’ll see it soon.

FO Friday - 6/21/2024

Y’all are in luck! I have not one, but two FOs this week.

I made a Reyna by Noora Backlund in this beautiful shade of Dream in Color Starry yarn. I finished it last month, but it took a while to block it and take a picture. It’s an easy pattern and I enjoyed the knit. I will likely gift this shawl.

In my effort to use up my yarn stash before I die, I made a kid hat using Cascade 220 Superwash Sport. One doesn’t really need a pattern, but I used Classic Ribbed Hat by Purl Soho. It will go in the gift/donate box as well.

Don’t hold your collective breaths until the next FO Friday, Dear Readers…

FO Friday - 5:31/2024

It’s been a hundred years since I’ve shown y’all any finished objects. 

Here are two chemo caps I whipped up in March. I used Caron Simply Soft Solids because it’s recommended for chemo caps. 

I made this little in January hat out of Dale Garn Stork leftover from a long ago project. 

The plan was to make hats out of my many leftovers to donate or have for gifts. That didn’t last long. It’s almost June and I’ve only made 3 hats.

I started this sweater last August. It got put on a back burner until this month. I was determined to finish it. 

The pattern is called Lemon Spritz by Marie Greene. I used  Berroco Modern Cotton DK. I’m so glad I finally finished it - just in time to wear.

I have another recent finish, but I have to block it. I’m not making any predictions or promises about when it will appear here.

FO Friday - 11/10/2023

Hey everybody! My Birthday Season is drawing to a close. It’s been a good one. I’ve spent time with people I love, done some girlfriend trips, eaten good food - life is good!

I have a thing I finished:

I made this quilt for the condo and I’m really happy with how it turned out. The top had been complete for several months. I was waiting to take all the long arm instruction and do some practicing before I tackled the quilting part on this one.

FO Friday - 9/29/2023

Y’all! I haven’t done a finished object post in forever! Maybe, because I’m better at starting projects than finishing them. 

In an effort to use up stash, I had leftover lime green yarn that I used to make a hat. The pattern I used is called Limestone Lily Cap by Shelby Nichols.

I finished the top months ago, had my friend quilt it on her long arm and I finally applied the binding fairly recently. So, here it is! And, I have leftovers to make another quilt. Yay. (sarcasm) Sadly, I saw a major mistake after I took this picture, but it’s probably only major to me.

I took a class on a computerized long arm machine and then proceeded to make this little quilt using leftovers from another project that hasn’t been quilted yet. (eye roll)

Currently, I am working to finish some super, secret Christmas projects and as many of the other projects I have going before I start another thing.

FO Friday - 6/23/2023

 Hey y’all!

I made another Jelka; so The Kid can have a hat to match his friend.

I also made a reversible scrub cap. Why? I guess because I can, because I don’t work in a surgical specialty.

I’m not sure if I like this pattern. It is a free one off the internet and it needed a tweak to get to this point, but we’ll see. I’ve got three other ones using same pattern cut out and ready to go. I’m sure I can find someone who’d want them.
