FO Friday 1/27/2023

Today, I have two more projects that have been finished for a while to show you.

I started this cowl in July and finished it in September. The pattern is Breeze Louise by Laura Dobratz. The yarn is City by Dream in Color in Spring Flower. It was a fun knit.

I started this little cardi also in July and finished it in November. The pattern is Baby Sweater on Two Needles (February) by Elizabeth Zimmerman. I’ve made it before. This time, I made it without sleeves. The yarn is Kashmir Baby by Louisa Harding Yarns.

Book Chat - 1/26/2023

New year, new book challenge. My goal is the same last last year - 24 books. If I read more, great! I recently finished reading the first book of the year.

The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn
Young Cristabel Seagrave has always had an active imagination. It’s only natural that she would be leading her siblings and members of the household staff in productions performed on a stage built within the skeleton of a whale that had beached years ago. She leads them on all sorts of adventures.  When WWII rolls around, she and her siblings head out to do their bits. It was good.

WIP Wednesday - 1/25/2023

I like to sew. I know, shocker. I also like fabric that’s sewing or dressmaking themed.

A few years ago, I found this Bernina themed fabric and bought some to make a cover for my sewing machine. I finally got around to cutting into that fabric and getting busy.

Along the way to very recently, I purchased other sewing themed fabrics. I’ll be making covers for the other machines too.

Movie Monday - 1/23/2023

I managed to catch a couple of flicks in the past week.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson star in The Banshees of Inisherin. One day, on an island off the coast of Ireland, Colm Doherty decides he doesn’t like his lifelong friend Pádraic Súilleabháin anymore. Pádraic tries to figure out why. It was a bit quirky and a mite gruesome in a couple of parts, but rather enjoyable. I liked it.

The film Elvis spans the rise to superstardom of Elvis Presley. The complicated relationship with Colonel Tom Parker is also examined. Austin Butler was phenomenal in portraying Elvis. I don’t even like Elvis Presley music (Did I say that out loud?), but I have a new appreciation of his talent. Good movie.

FO Friday - 1/20/2023

I dug up a few more projects y’all haven’t seen.

I started this sweater in June of 2021. I had shown y’all a picture of it in progress that July. Then, it got put on the back burner. I lost track of it from November 2021 until March 2022. I finally finished it in July of last year, except for the buttons, which I finally sewed on yesterday. It’s made out of Cascade 220 Superwash leftovers of other projects. The pattern is Elwood by Jenny Wiebe.

This little hat was made from leftovers of Berroco Comfort DK to match the Oli Woo I made 100 years ago. I never gifted it anywhere because I felt it really needed a hat to be complete. The pattern is Basic Beanie by Emily Bolduan.

I started this hat last month and I finished it today. The pattern is Snow Stars by Susan Gutperl. It’s made from leftovers of Wool Ease.

Finally, I started and finished this hat this month. I used the Sockhead Slouch Hat pattern by Kelly McClure. I didn’t make it as slouchy as written. It’s made with Berroco Comfort Sock.

Have a great weekend!

Movie Monday - 1/16/2023

No judgment, but I still have one Hallmark Christmas movie to watch. What can I say - my dash is so full these days, with wash, vacuuming, reorganizing…

Don’t hate me because I lead such a glamorous life.

I read the book My Policeman last year and commented about it here. I think the film is a good adaptation of the book. Harry Stiles, Emma Corrine, Rupert Everett, Gina McKee and more acted beautifully in the movie. I liked it.

RECENT BINGES:
My Unorthodox Life - Netflix
Harry and Meghan - Netflix

Book Chat - 1/12/2023

Happy New Year! I read 57 books in 2022. For 2023, I again pledge to read at least 24. Let me tell you about the final two books I read last year.

Barefoot by Elin Hilderbrand
It’s another great book with wonderfully crafted characters. Three women, each with personal drama, head to Nantucket for the summer. Each is hoping to find clarity. It was so good!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt
I really liked The Goldfinch by the same author and was quite surprised to find that I did not enjoy reading this book. It moved so slowly and there was so much description. It took half the book to get to the big event that was not even a surprise since the beginning of the book talks about it. By the time it finally happened, I had quit caring about the aftermath. I kept going, thinking there’d be something worth reading but, no. Read at your own risk.

Here’s to many (and better) adventures in 2023!

WIP Wednesday - 1/11/2023

Lest the world thinks I’ve just been sitting around playing tiddlywinks, behold some projects:

I’ve been having fun playing with scraps leftover from past projects.

I also started a yearlong project to make hats to donate. I have so much yarn. It should be warming up some folks instead of sitting in the closet doing nothing.
