A Recent FO...

...of sorts:

That's my completed passport from my adventures participating in the Yarn Along the Rockies yarn crawl.  (Sorry for the blurry picture.) This year, crawlers had from September 13th until the 21st to visit 24 shops.

Since I was in the area due to Fall Fling and visiting with family and friends, I thought "Why not?"

I hit 12 shops the first day, 9 on the second and 3 on the third.  It was fun.  I've been going to the Denver area for the last 29 years and I had never really seen Denver.  Well, now I can truly say I have.  There are some really neat neighborhoods and 24 shops I'd like to revisit.

I purchased the official bag of the crawl to place all the pins I collected from the shops along the crawl:

One pin is missing because they had run out!

It was fun and it made me get ready for the DFW Yarn Crawl that's coming up next month...in fact it starts next Friday!

Hope to see y'all on the crawl...

Fling Has Flung!

I was one of the lucky people who were chosen to participate in The Loopy Ewe's annual fiber extravaganza. It's a weekend with classes, knitting, making friends and, of course, yarn shopping.

We were all gifted a goodie bag filled with luscious treats:

There was a dessert reception the first night, complete with a talk by The Yarn Harlot:

At night, the knitters would gather in the stitching lounge to knit and talk.  The teachers (all goddesses in the knitting world) would join the group. Here are two of the teachers, Ann and Stephanie, explaining each of their philosophical takes on the Kitchener technique:

Here's what I bought on my trip to The Loopy Ewe:

There were door prizes on the last night:

I won one!

I cannot reveal much else, because What Happens at Fling, Stays at Fling, but I will say that there was a lolly salad and Tim Tam slamming going on...

Movie Monday - 9/22/2014

Let's do this...

I watched CBGB not too long ago.  It tells the story of the New York club called CBGB for country, bluegrass and blues, owned by the infamous Hilly Kristal. The club and Kristal were characters. Yes, the club was a character and the bands that played there were as well.  From Blondie to The Police to the Talking Heads and The Ramones. CBGB, as it turns out, was the birthplace of punk.  Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint, Johnny Galecki and Ashley Greene were among the stars in this film.  It was pretty good...and so was the soundtrack.

Fruitvale Station was a thought-provoking movie, based on Oscar Grant's last day before he was shot and killed by BART police in the wee hours of New Year's Day 2009.  The film is based on true events. The filmmaker wanted to give Grant a story besides "He was a young, black man who was killed by a white cop." Michael B. Jordan, Melonie Diaz and Octavia Spencer star in this movie. It was good.

Clint Eastwood, Isaiah Washington and Dennis Leary star in True Crime. Eastwood also directed this film. It's an old movie I saw on tee vee the other day. An alcoholic reporter has a hunch that a death row inmate set to be executed in the next day or two did not commit the crime. He has just hours to gather some evidence and convince the law that they have the wrong man. It was well acted and very good.

FO Friday - 9/5/2014

I won't even apologize for the radio silence...I remain overextended, and all I can do is the best I can.

I did finish my Camp Loopy Project 3 just under the wire:

I used Swan's Island Natural Colors Merino Fingering in the color Beetroot.  I think the name accurately describes the color, if I do say so myself.  The pattern, Valine, is by Mary Annarella.  I highly recommend her patterns.  They are very clearly and thoughtfully written.

I was having trouble at the beginning of the project, among the reasons being the two skeins were not the most closely matched on the planet. I had to alternate skeins throughout the entire experience, and that just makes me cranky from the get go.  The final time I restarted was the 15th of the month; so, it actually didn't take me all that long to knit the sweater, but it wasn't the most favorite time I've had knitting.

Despite all that grumbling (and there was quite a bit of grumbling), I really like the feel and the fit of this sweater.  The yarn is soft and the color is de-vine.  I think I will get plenty of wear out of it...and that makes me happy.

So, it was another successful Camp Loopy for me this summer.
