Movie Monday - 6/24/2024

I had an emotional weekend. I attended the celebration of life for a woman whom I called my surrogate mother. She was beautiful, charming, funny, kind, warm and wise. She will be missed by many.

I was feeling a little blue today; so, I watched a movie, despite all the other things on my list that needed attention.

Black Barbie is a documentary about how Mattel started producing dark skinned Barbies in 1980 - 21 years after the first Barbie was introduced. It was thought provoking.

FO Friday - 6/21/2024

Y’all are in luck! I have not one, but two FOs this week.

I made a Reyna by Noora Backlund in this beautiful shade of Dream in Color Starry yarn. I finished it last month, but it took a while to block it and take a picture. It’s an easy pattern and I enjoyed the knit. I will likely gift this shawl.

In my effort to use up my yarn stash before I die, I made a kid hat using Cascade 220 Superwash Sport. One doesn’t really need a pattern, but I used Classic Ribbed Hat by Purl Soho. It will go in the gift/donate box as well.

Don’t hold your collective breaths until the next FO Friday, Dear Readers…

WIP Wednesday- 6/19:2024

I haven’t made a WIP Wednesday post in a long time. Now is as good a time as any. Not much movie watching, some reading, a little sewing and a little knitting - that’s what’s been taking up the dash recently.

I’m working on a quilt that needs backing and binding fabric:

I’ve finished the top to the baseball memory quilt that y’all saw in progress a whole year ago. I changed the plans and just finished it. That’s the point, isn’t it? The backing and binding fabrics are on their way to me and then, I’ll turn it over to the long arm quilter.

I’m making a hat in CSU colors for my grandson.

And, I thought I’d make another Sharon top.

I made one years ago and didn’t really wear it much because it was a tiny bit too form fitting to my liking. I gave it away a while back. In my constant efforts to decrapify, I found plenty of the left over yarn; so, I thought I’d give it another whirl.

Hope all is well in your world!

Movie Monday - 6/3/2024

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I worked on a quilt mostly from scraps. Y’all might get to see it someday soon.

You People is about a Jewish man getting together with a Black woman. Jonas Hill (who helped write and produce), Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Eddie Murphy, Lauren London, Nia Ling and David Duchovny starred in this sometimes funny look at trying to reconcile cultural and religious differences. It was pretty good.

Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively star in A Simple Favor. One unconventional mom asks her new bestie to pick up her son after school as she has a work thing that will run late. Then the mom doesn’t show up. What happened to her? See the movie and find out. I liked it!

The 2024 Oscar winner for Best Documentary Short Film was The Last Repair Shop. It tells about a group of people who dedicate their time repairing student instruments. It was good.

In Năi Nai & Wài Pó, the director introduces us to his Chinese grandmothers. They live together in Northern California and seem to get along great. It was cute!

Y’all be good!
