Movie Monday - 6/20/2016

I haven't been the avid movie goer of late. Pre-award season is over...the quality of movies currently out there hasn't been up to my standards. Nothing really had been floating my boat, so to speak.

I did see Money Monster in the theater recently. George Clooney plays a guy with a television show  giving stock advice, much like Jim Cramer of Mad Money fame. An investor who lost all he had  after taking a tip from Lee Gates (Clooney), takes him hostage on the air. Julia Roberts plays Gate's director, who works behind the scenes to try and help her colleague before it's too late. It was pretty good.

I started watching Straight Outta Compton, a film that chronicles the rise and fall of the hip hop group N.W.A. Of course I've heard of Dr. Dre, MC Ren, Ice Cube, DJ Yella and Esay E, but I knew nothing about them. It was interesting, but a hard film to watch in some parts.

That's it for this week.

Happy WWKIPD*!!!

*World Wide Knitting in Public Day

I'm so excited that I finished my boxy project bag last night and since it's WWKIPD, I'm not going to wait until the next FO Friday to show it to y'all!!!

The May Monthly Mixer prompt to was "make something fun with just batiks." Y'all saw a teaser picture yesterday and here it is:

I used leftovers from my 2016 Camp Loopy June Fabric project - a table runner. It's was my first real live quilting project.

I really like the little window in the front.

The pattern is All Boxed Up by This & That. I got it, as well as a few others by them, at TLE.

I've got my June Camp Loopy project all packed up.

I'm ready for WWKIPD. Are you?

FO Friday - 6/17/2016

My, my...where do the days go?

I've been knitting along, mostly. I went out of town last weekend, but a family medical emergency elsewhere took the wind out my sails. I wanted to finish my KAL scarf for Tuesday, but I fell short. Oh well, I'm not too far from finishing it; so, be looking for that.

I did make a little hat using some leftovers from this project and this project (for which the hat was made).

I think they look okay together, don't you?

I made another ensemble for the Princess Niece and her Bitty Baby.

The fabric is from Moda's Bread and Butter line. I bought it from TLE back in March. I had in mind to make something for PN. Right before the June Mixer assignment was announced, I thought I just had to make another outfit like the mustard yellow one in the next size up. I had such a good time making the first one, that I had to make it again. When the June Mixer assignment was announced - "Pick the last pattern you saw and added to your “must make” list to make this month" - I said, "Okay!!!"

Remember that apron I made a few months back? It was a Christmas present for my SIL. Nooooo? You don't remember? Excuse me a second.

Okay, I'm back. You don't remember because I never showed you. Doh! Here it is:

Well, I just got around to making hot pads and kitchen towels to match:

I bought the fabric at Madtosh Crafts a couple of years ago - except for the linen/cotton blend fabric I used for the towels and the backing of the hot pads. It's a Robert Kaufman Essex Yarn Dyed in Flax.

Back to my studio to work on the May Mixer. It currently looks like this:

The June Mixer got finished first because I was going to be seeing the recipients and I wanted to give the gifts then.

Have a good weekend!

FO Friday - 6/3/2016

Another semester of Loopy Academy is in the bag.

The table runner was the last assignment I had to complete.

We had to make a table runner using solid fabrics and quilting had to be involved. I chose some Kona solids in colors I find in my home.

I had to use up enough fabric to meet the requirement; so, I sewed the remaining big pieces of fabric together and appliquéd some strips on top to make it all tie together.

I did the extra credit assignment only for the yarn class. We had to use any of The Loopy Ewe's exclusive yarn lines in a project that used 200 or more yards.

I made the Garter Stitch Baby Kimono, using The Loopy Ewe Solid Series in Cardinal.

It's not a quick knit - fingering weight yarn, little needles - but it turns out cute.

Now, back to my pile of WIPs. Happy weekend!

Another WIP

I am participating in the Up and Down Summer Scarf KAL. It started on May 23rd and ends on June 15th.

I started my scarf on May 25th by knitting the first 7 garter rows. I promptly set it aside to finish up my Loopy Academy projects that weren't yet finished. I also went out of town for a few days.

Yesterday, I came across it again and knitted about 60 rows.

There are over 500 rows in this scarf. I figure I need to knit about 50 rows a day to be finish it, block it and upload a picture by the 15th.

WIP Wednesday - 6/1/2016

I have eight projects OTN right this minute, but that didn't stop me from casting on the first assignment for Camp Loopy today. I'm heading out to Lace Lagoon knitting Little Leaf Lace Scarf using Hedgehog Fibers Sock in Hunter.

From the Loopy blog - Theme: Treasure Maps. It’s important to have a map along when you head off into lands unknown. You pick your destination this month. Would you like to end up in Cable Cove? On Fair Isle? In Brioche Bay? Or in Lace Lagoon? Pick one of these techniques (Cables, Fair Isle, Brioche or Lace) for your June project. Project must use a minimum of 400 yards in a single project.

I decided that I am going to knit from stash this year because the theme of the year at Chez MerryKarma is "Stash first." I'm just going to do the yarn camp this year.

Stay tuned for peeks at other WIPs.
