DFW Fiber Fest 2015 Report

I haven't been the best blogger. Just over a week has passed since I attended the 10th DFW Fiber Fest and that was coming off the heels of a ski trip. I've been spending the time since trying to re-enter my life...and it's been hard People!

So...Fiber Fest.  Who knew how big and wonderful it would become ten years ago? There's a news story about the event. The Yarn Harlot AND Franklin Habit came and gave fabulous talks

I acquired things:

The vendor hall was super. There were some new vendors like Fishknits

...and Must Stash

...and Miss Babs

And returning vendors like Brooks Farm Yarns

...and Knitting Fairy

...and MadTosh Crafts

...and Skeindalous Yarns.

There was a stitching lounge where people sat and knitted, spinned, crocheted and visited.

Look! Yarn bombing!

It was lots and lots of fun. Y'all have to come next year.

Movie Monday - 3/16/2015

Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Penelope Wilton, Bill Nighy and most of the cast return in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Richard Gere is a welcome addition. This film is a little deeper than the first, but just as enjoyable and entertaining. The writing is good and the acting is superb. I loved it.

Movie Monday - 3/8/2015

Since the push to watch movies nominated for Oscars is over, I have been spending my available time binge watching Mad Men on Netflix. I see what all the fuss is about.  It is very good.

I did manage to watch a movie the other day, however...

Helen Mirren stars as the owner of a French restaurant in The Hundred Foot Journey.  A family buy the place across the street from hers to open an authentic Indian restaurant. She is not very happy about it. Om Puri, Manish Dayal and Charlotte Le Bon also star in this cute dramedy about making adjustments and trying to get along. It was good.

FOs!!!

I know it's not Friday, but yesterday was busy and I didn't have a picture of one of the projects and I didn't want to wait another week until I posted finished projects and...and...and...

I finished the sweater almost two weeks ago. I am very pleased how it turned out:

Pattern - 8 Days a Week by Mary Annarella
Yarn - Madelinetosh DK Twist in Seaglass
Modifications - I had to lengthen the armscye (armhole) about an inch; otherwise, none.
Started - 1/4/2015
Finished - 2/22/2015

I am happy to report that blocking did whip those socks into submission, but I couldn't find the blue sock blockers I usually use to style pictures of socks...sorry.

Pattern - Hippy Ripply Retro Socks by Helen Darmara
Yarn - Rainy Days and Wooly Dogs Laudanum Lache GothSocks in Barbie
Modifications - I made them top down.
Started - 1/11/2015
Finished - 2/28/2015

WIP Wednesday - 3/4/2015

Hello Poppets!  I have finished a couple of things in the recent past, but today, I want to show you what is currently OTN...

First, even though the January/February 2015 socks are done, they need a little help:

Knitting in the round results in a spiral that is usually not apparent. Some patterns (as the one I used to make these socks) encourage the spiraling to show up more.  I am not a proponent of blocking socks - I figure they straighten up and mind well while wearing them; so, why bother? However, this pair of socks needs to be whipped into shape in the worst way.

They have had a nice bath...

...and are now being coaxed into behaving.

I already have the March 2015 socks started:

I am using Madelinetosh Tosh Sock in Seaglass to match my sweater in the same color. Can I tell you how much I love this color? It makes me so happy, especially on dreary days that we've been having lately.

I've also started my second assignment for Loopy Academy:

I've done one half of the the top part of the left slipper. I have three more tops and two soles to go. Then I will assemble each slipper before I felt them.

So, that's what's on my needles.  What's on yours?
