WIP Wednesday - 11/23/2016

Hellooooooo!

I just thought I'd post a progress pic of another Loopy Academy yarn project I am making for this semester. I am double- dipping again because it's also my October Monthly Mixer project (something scary).

The Academy assignment is to make something with bobbles, popcorn stitches or nupps. Since I had never done any of these techniques, this project was scary to me.

I am modifying the pattern greatly. First, it was written as a pieced pattern. I knitted in the round to the armholes. Secondly, it instructed to start by making the lace edging at the bottom. That wasn't floating my boat; so, I skipped it. I might add a lace edging, or I might not. I'll have to see what I'm feeling later on down the road. Finally, the sleeves are supposed to be knitted flat, then attached and seamed, or visa-versa. I'm going to to pick up stitches after seaming the shoulders and knit them in the round.

Another WIP around here is Thanksgiving dinner. I'm getting ready to prep the turkey breasts.

I've been assigning containers for all the food too.

Happy  Thanksgiving Y'all!

Movie Monday - 11/21/2016

I can't believe I had movies to share and I forgot all about them!

In The Light Between Oceans, a lighthouse keeper on the coast of Western Australia (Michael Fassbender) and his wife (Alicia Vikander) can't seem to have children. Not long after they buried their second stillborn child, a dead man and an infant girl in a boat wash ashore. The wife is so desperate to have a child that she convinces her husband to not report the incident and they take in the baby as their own. I won't say more because I don't want to give anything away, except to say that it was really, really good. The scenery, the acting and the story worked well together. I really liked this film.

Meryl Streep stars in Ricki and the Flash about a woman who abandoned her family to follow her dream of becoming a rock star. She is, for all intents and purposes, estranged from her family, but her ex-husband calls her back to help with a family crisis. Kevin Kline, Rick Springfield and Mamie Gummer also star in this predictable little tale. It was alright, yet entertaining.

FO Friday - 11/18/2016

Don't faint.

I finished the first of three Loopy Academy projects for this semester.

Pattern: Opal Sock Bunny by Susan B. Anderson and Poppy Cardigan
Yarn: The Loooy Ewe Solid Series in Ice and Slate Blue
Comments: We were instructed to make a toy as one of our assignments. To make the 250 yards requirement, I made a little cardi for the fellow. I also lengthened his body and appendages. After it was all said and done, his head should've been bigger, but it's a complete-as-you-go kind of scheme. File that one away, People.

I have never been a toy knitting kind of gal. It's just never interested me. Making this project hasn't peaked my interest, but I guess I would make another should the need ever arise in the future.

Remember those little needle keepers from earlier this month?

I decided to make do with cutting some narrow strips of the wool for the ties. They are both felted wools; so, no finishing of raw edges required.

I just attached them and we are done!

The score for Loopy's Monthly Mixers is - I am totally finished through July with the sewing and the knitting projects. (I didn't do a May knitting project by choice.) I need to finish August's sewing project. The September knitting project is OTN and the sewing project has been planned. The October knitting project is OTN. The November knitting project is almost done. I'm not sure what I am going to make for the sewing project yet.

Loopy Academy is a bit more tenuous. There's one down and two to go for the knitting. I have one of them OTN; so, at least there's that. I have all three to go for the sewing - one is cut out and ready to go; another is a stack of fabric at the moment and the third isn't even a plan.

I'd better get busy!

FO Friday - 11/4/2016

Hello Y'all!

I finished a couple of little somethings.

For July, the Loopy's Monthly Mixer prompt was to make something using flannel or wool. These are needle keepers and the tutorial is included in this book:

They need some kind of closure, but I am having a hard time finding a bit of ribbon that would do the trick; so, I am calling them done.

The tutorial suggested eighth-inch wide velvet ribbon.

I used my own design for the cut outs. The bluish fabric is Harrington Wool Solids by Penny Rose Fabrics. The red one is Wool 80 by Moda.

Sorry for the poorly lit photos. I never promised stellar production values.

WIP Wednesday - 11/2/2016

We have a body and almost one upper extremity!!!

It's time for the heel. I'm going to do a Fish Lips Kiss Heel for the very first time.

I thought cutting out the pieces for a few sewing projects might increase the chances of them getting done.

That's all I'm working on right now.
